Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program designed to restore and maintain individuals with heart disease to their optimal physiological, social, vocational, and emotional levels. Participants include those who have experienced a heart attack, coronary artery bypass graft, coronary angioplasty/stents or stable angina, heart valve repair or replacement, and heart or heart lung transplant.

The Crete Area Medical Center (CAMC) Cardiac Rehabilitation program was established in 1996. There are many steps involved in the process of heart complications from the diagnosis, to the procedure, to the recovery period, which can all be an overwhelming experience. Recovering from a heart condition is a lifelong process and participating in Cardiac Rehabilitation is one of the crucial steps in implementing recovery and lifestyle changes.

Crete Area Medical Center's Cardiac Rehabilitation offers each participant his or her own individual exercise program. Our Cardiac Rehab has a variety of exercise equipment including treadmills, airdynes, recumbent steppers, stationary bike, arm ergometer, a stairstepper, and handheld weights. Our exercise sessions are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 6:45AM to 3PM, with each session lasting approximately one hour. For more information on the Cardiac Rehab program please contact the Cardiac Rehab Department at (402) 826-6546.

Phase I occurs while the patient is hospitalized and being treated for heart complications.

Phase II is a cardiovascular outpatient exercise program, which is continuously monitored through telemetry. Each participant is assessed and an individual program is developed. Education classes include stress management, medication review, low fat, low sodium, low cholesterol diets, smoking sensation, hypertension.

Lifetime Maintenance

Our lifetime Maintenance phase of Cardiac Rehab is an affordable cardiovascular exercise program, which is designed to promote the continuation of established goals in the participant's individualized plan. The Lifetime Maintenance program encourages independent exercise, while maintaining a heart healthy lifestyle.

Lifetime Maintenance Family Program

The Lifetime Maintenance Family Program is designed especially to motivate a Cardiac Rehab participant and their family members to obtain and maintain a heathly lifestyle by working together. As part of this program, participants will benefit by learning to use and operate the exercise equipment correctly and safely in the Cardiac Rehab area.

Research proves that a person will stay with an exercise program longer when enthusiastic support from friends and especially family is available. Share your goals with your partner, children, grandchildren or friends, by exercising together.
